DSCAN is completely safe to install on your system and it also includes an uninstaller (using Microsoft® Windows® installer - MSI technology). If you don't use DSCAN-UDM, you can remove it from your hard disk within seconds.

In the following procedure, it is assumed that the root directory resides on the c drive. If you are using another drive, substitute that name for c. For example, if you are using the d drive, type d:\dscan .

• To download the executable files and the desired databases on your machine, you may have to select the button Save As of your web browser when asked to do so by your web browser:
  
  Select Save this program to disk.
  Choose a folder of your choice on your computer. Remember where you saved the files DSCANV6.EXE. Same process for Nucleus.zip (and/or UDB.ZIP, and/or TEXT.ZIP). They will be downloaded in the download directory defined in your web browser.
  
  Select another directory of your choice or accept the one defined in your web browser.
  But in any case you must remember where you saved the downloaded files. Press Save.
• If you have any problems downloading the file, right-click on the link above and then select 'Save target as' (in Internet Explorer) or 'Save link as' (in Netscape Navigator/Communicator). It sometimes helps to press the "Refresh" button in your Web browser and to clear the Web browser cache before downloading.
  Wait for the file to be completely saved on your machine:
  
• Once the self-extractable file DSCANV6.EXE is saved on your machine, open the file manager and double click on DSCANV6.EXE to unzip the files from DSCANV6.EXE into the default directory.
  Depending of your assigned VISTA rights and parameters, you may have to right-click and Select Run As Administrator
  Accept the confirm dialog box:
  
  When the Winzip-Self-Extractor dialog box appears, you can accept or change the indicated default path then select the button Unzip.
• You will have to enter the password before you can unzip its contents:
  
  Wait until the end of the unzipping process. It should only take a few seconds.
• Then the Welcome dialog will display:
  
  Note: Users must have administrator privileges to complete the installation.
  Click Next to continue
• The End-User License Agreement will display:
  
  Read it, if you accept it you can continue.
• You will be asked to select the components you want to install. The Program Files are required. The English French Nucleus Database is optional. You can also select a different path if desired.
  
• You can deselect the English French Nucleus Database:
  
  By default the English French Nucleus Database is selected. You can later on add the English French Nucleus Database by restarting the Installation.
• During the installation (a few seconds) the progress bar will show you the development of the process.
  
  The installation will create the Start > Programs > DSCAN-UDM main menu options.
• You ar enow ready to use DSCAN!
  The DSCAN-UDM installation is done.
• Execute DSCAN-UDM from your Windows Start menu, Start > All Programs > DSCAN-UDM > DSCAN-UDM:
  

Re-Adding or Updating The English / French Nucleus after installation

• If desired, you can later update the Nucleus database anytime you want.
  Start DSCAN. From  the main DSCAN dialog box, select the Archives menu and the desired sub-menu option to automatically setup the database file system and/or sample file(s). For example to install the nucleus files select, from the main DSCAN dialog box, Archives > Install Nucleus from Archives:
  
  A DOS window will open the file Nucleus.zip located in Program Files\Dscan\Bin to extract the 53 files existing in nucleus.zip into the directory Program Files\Dscan\Nucleus.
  

Modify Repair Remove

• The DSCAN MSI can repair, replace, and verify files. A partial or complete application reinstallation might be required if any files or registry entries associated with any DSCAN feature have become corrupted or are missing.


To modify, repair or remove DSCAN from you computer go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Program. Then Select DSCAN from the list.

NOTE: DSCAN accepts all accented characters. If you have problems typing accented characters on your system such as è é or à select My Computer Control Panel - Keyboard - Language Properties - United States-International. This setting will allow you to type accented characters without re-mapping your keyboard. You may need to install the file Kbdusx.kbd in the windows\system directory of the machine in question. You can also select one of the French keyboards, but I personally do not advise it for most English speaking users.

When payment is received I will send you the license file for DSCAN-User Database Manager. The license file may not be provided or otherwise made available without proper authorization. I do not currently offer any written documentation, the on-line help is very complete. When payment is received I will send you the latest Nucleus Database System and a license file for DSCAN-User Database Manager. This license file will unlock the software as applicable by the software license agreement. The license file may not be provided or otherwise made available without proper authorization. Schneider grants to evaluators a non-transferable right to use the shareware version of the software for a limited time for the sole purpose of evaluation, subject to all the terms and conditions of this Agreement.   The Software is designed to operate with an authorized key supplied by Dominique G. Schneider or its authorized representatives. Evaluators may not decompile, disassemble or otherwise reverse engineer the Software.
